Sleep

I rest my head
firm pillow
soft bed
insistent dreams
running and talking
to no one in particular
in REM world

they say you work it out
in your sleep
the problems that plague
you in the day
the things you can't wrap
your mind around
when you're trying
to make things make sense
they say
in the dreamworld
the crazy animals that talk
to you are telling you
something about
your daytime drama

the dreams I am told
hold truth and if you
can just figure out the
symbols all would
be right in your
waking world

so I sleep
and dream
and wonder
what any of these
symbols mean
and wake
to no answers
but rested.
