Sometimes, words are the only things that matter
as we listen intent to each syllable, the rounding
of phrases that catch the meaning of days gone
we pay close attention to what is not said
and make some sense of the pauses in between
We both want to understand
We both want to comprehend
We both want to perceive
Words, sometimes, are the only things that matter
