KNOCK

“The major problem of life is learning how to handle the costly interruptions. The door that slams shut, the plan that got sidetracked, the marriage that failed. Or that lovely poem that didn't get written because someone knocked on the door.”
― Martin Luther King, Jr.

laundry has a loud voice
car screams a tune-up
Solomon barks a walk
plants thirst water
floor, swept and mopped
every part of the house,
needs dusting
books want to be read
articles written
and that one project
that stares at me from the computer
and the novel that keeps
knocking, too
